Hits were pounded out all over the ballpark tonight; with the bats and the tunes as the Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets 9-1 on Okotoks Idol night. The Medicine Hat Mavericks won as well so it means that we continue to be tied for first in the West Division.
The Dawgs punched out 14 hits tonight. Clutch hitting was key to tonight’s victory as Trace Tam-Sing, Drew Petit and Jerod Bartnik each came up with a two strike, base hit that drove in runs. Those types of hits are backbreaking for the opponent. Stetson Olson led the way offensively, he went 3 for 4, with 2 runs scored, a double and an RBI.
Over looked by the offensive effort was the fantastic start by Trent Wilson in his final appearance of the summer. Trent has to report back to school to get ready for the fall season. Wilson went seven strong innings, striking out five, leaving his team in line to pick up a shutout. This is will be the second Dawgs starter being forced to depart the team for schooling reasons.
The Dawgs are smoking hot. They will make a bid for their eighth straight win tomorrow night when we have Salute The USA Day at the ballpark. The Dawgs are really building up steam as they approach their toughest part of the season in mid July. First pitch goes at 7:05pm local time. See you there!
