Summer may be coming to a close, but Dawgs baseball action continues at Seaman Stadium & Tourmaline Field!
This coming weekend, the Okotoks Dawgs Academy will begin their 2012 ‘fall ball’ schedule in Okotoks with a weekend series against Thompson Rivers University out of Kamloops, BC. The Dawgs Midget Academy will be busy, playing six games in three days, Friday through Sunday, against the TRU Wolfpack.
This will be the first game action for the Dawgs Academy since the Dawgs Black team won the 2012 Midget National Championship held in Quebec City in August. The TRU roster also features some names that may be familiar to fans of the summer collegiate’ Dawgs, with Dawgs’ infielders John Apostolo and Brendan Reid, as well as pitcher Ryan Rogers suiting up for the Wolfpack.
The Dawgs and Wolfpack will devide into two teams each for the weekend, with the ability to use both Seaman Stadium and the newest addition to the Dawgs Baseball Complex, Tourmaline Field. The series kicks off on Friday, September 7th, with games at both Seaman Stadium and Tourmaline Field beginning at 6:00. The teams will then play a 1:00 game at both fields on Saturday, and a 10:00 am game at both fields on Sunday.
For those who are unable to make it to the ballpark this weekend, the Dawgs will be providing audio/video webcast coverage of the games played at Seaman Stadium. Jonathan Hodgson, the play by play voice of the Okotoks Dawgs summer collegiate team will have the call beginning 20 minutes before game time, at the following link (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dawgs-baseball) or by following the "live webcast" icons on dawgsbaseball.ca
Summer is quickly coming to a close, so make your way to Seaman Stadium & Tourmaline Field this weekend to get what might be your last taste of baseball action this year! The Dawgs Midget Academy is a very exciting brand of baseball, featuring players currently attending high school right here in Okotoks, in preparation to take their careers to the next level, be it collegiate or professional.
The Dawgs Academy graduates players annually to top collegiate programs in Canada and the USA, and has had numerous players drafted to Major League Baseball. Just a couple of notable draftees include Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jim Henderson, 2012 San Francisco Giants draftee Tyler Hollick, who recently completed his first season in the Giants organization, and 2012 Milwaukee Brewers draft pick Chris Shaw, who is currently starring for Team Canada’s Junior National Team at the World Junior Championships in Seoul, South Korea.
