The 2017 season kicks off Friday, June 2 as the Okotoks Dawgs play host to the Medicine Hat Mavericks at Seaman Stadium. First pitch flies at 7:05 pm.
A SEASON AGO
The Dawgs enjoyed an incredible 2016 regular season, posting their highest win total since 2011. A 33-14 record was good for first in the WMBL, beating the Swift Current 57’s by a half-game for that title and ousting Medicine Hat by three games for first in the West division. The regular season success didn’t carry over into the playoffs, however, as the Dawgs were ousted in four games by the Edmonton Prospects in the opening round. Okotoks was outscored 25-15 in the series. On the other side of the field, the Mavericks played to a 30-17 record over the course of their campaign. The Mavs were also bumped from playoff contention by Edmonton in four games. In a tightly-knit, best of five series, Medicine Hat were outscored 24-20.
The season series was split right down the midde in 2016 -- both clubs walking away with four wins apiece. In eight contests, Medicine Hat narrowly outscored the Dawgs, 32-30.
