The Okotoks Dawgs (4-0) are on the road to take on the Edmonton Prospects (3-1) for their second road game of the season at RE/MAX Field tonight, June 8. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Dawgs used an incredible sixth inning to power their way to a 9-6 victory over the Brooks Bombers last night. Kody Funderburk blew the contest wide open with a multi-home run game, allowing Nick Vickers to cruise to a quality start on the other side of the ball. Vickers tossed five innings of one-run baseball while striking out eight.

The Dawgs exacted some revenge in game one against the team who ousted them from the playoffs last year. As part of their three-game home stand to begin the season, Okotoks took a 9-6 win over the Prospects, Sunday June 4. Greg Cullen, Jayse McLean and Joel Brophy notched three hits apiece to lead the way while senior Chris Horvath earned the win on the mound.

The Dawgs have now recorded seven-plus runs in each of their games this season, while also registering double digit hits. Okotoks gathered 11 base-knocks in game one, following that up with 12, 14 and 13. They are now fifth in the league in terms of hits with as many as three less games played. The Lethbridge Bulls lead the way with 75. Five players from the Dawgs are in the top 15 in the WMBL in terms of batting average. Brophy (1st), Kody Funderburk (4th), Greg Cullen (8th), Peter Hutzal (9th), Jayse McLean (12th).

Although the Dawgs are away from Seaman Stadium for the next five days, there’s no reason not to be geared up for one of the most anticipated games of the season. June 18 against Brooks, the Dawgs will host their annual Father’s Day event.

Following their game in Edmonton, the Dawgs head to Fort McMurray for a three-game series with the Giants this weekend. Okotoks comes home June 13 against the Lethbridge Bulls.
