The Okotoks Dawgs (4-2) take on the (1-5) Fort McMurray Giants in game two of their three-game series tonight, June 10.
The Dawgs dropped their second of the road trip yesterday at Shell Place. Tyler Hodder of Fort McMurray was able to keep Okotoks in check for the majority of the contest, striking out four over seven innings. Jayse McLean and Greg Cullen broke the shutout late in the ballgame. McLean powered a double over the head of the outfield before Cullen cleared the bases with a triple to right-centre.
Okotoks was held to just seven hits a night ago, which is only the second time this season they had not reached double digits.
HAD TO HAPPEN SOME TIME
The last time the Dawgs lost back-to-back games in the regular season was July 2nd and 3rd to the Regina Red Sox of last season. Okotoks dropped game one 15-8 before losing 6-2. The Dawgs had previously won six straight going into the two-game series. Following the pair of losses, the red and white won seven in a row.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
Highly touted Dawgs Academy pitcher Graham Brunner will be getting the nod for the Dawgs tonight. The 6'2", 190-pound left-handed pitcher will be making his debut for the collegiate club.
FATHER’S DAY GAME
Although the Dawgs are away from Seaman Stadium for the next four days, there’s no reason not to be geared up for one of the most anticipated games of the season. June 18 against Brooks, the Dawgs will host their annual Father’s Day event.
The Man Van will be parked outside Seaman Stadium gates for the entirety of the game, helping Okotokians get checked for prostate cancer.
Greg Cullen (R): 9-23, 4 R, 11 RBI, .391 AVG [Six-game hitting streak, leads team in RBI]
Jayse McLean (R): 7-22, 6 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 5 RBI, .318 AVG [Tied with Cullen for team lead in extra-base hits]
The Dawgs finish their three-game series in Fort McMurray Sunday, June 11, before coming home to take on the Lethbridge Bulls Tuesday, June 13.
