The Okotoks Dawgs (7-2) take on the (2-7) Medicine Hat Mavericks in a home-and-home series beginning today, June 15. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Dawgs clawed their way back from a 7-1 deficit to take a 12-9 victory against the top team in the West division, the Lethbridge Bulls, a night ago. On the back of a four home run night, three from Jayse McLean and one from Matt Lloyd in his debut, Okotoks earned their third straight win. The boys capped the day off with 15 hits, a season high.

In a pair of games against Medicine Hat this year, the Dawgs are 2-0. In their home opener, Okotoks gave up a 5-2 lead in the ninth inning only to walk it off in the bottom half with a pair of runs, winning 7-6. In game two, the red and white put forth a 12-hit performance in a 14-11 victory.

Nick Vickers gets the nod tonight on the road. A year ago, Vickers had the Mavericks’ number, throwing 12 total innings against them while allowing just three runs. He averaged a strikeout per inning and was an undefeated 2-0.

This year, Vickers is up to much of the same. In his first start against the Brooks Bombers, the Calgary product fanned eight over five innings of work, picking up his first win of the season. He also came in for relief in the walk-off victory against Medicine Hat earlier this year, pitching two innings of shutout baseball, striking out three.

There’s no reason not to be geared up for one of the most anticipated games of the season. June 18 against Brooks, the Dawgs will host their annual Father’s Day event.

The Man Van will be parked outside Seaman Stadium gates for the entirety of the game, helping Okotokians get checked for prostate cancer.

Jayse McLean (R): 12-34, 10 R, 4 2B, 3 HR, .353 AVG

Matt Lloyd: 2-5, R, RBI, HR, .400 AVG

Peter Hutzal, 2017 against Medicine Hat: 5-10, 6 R, 2B, RBI, .500 AVG

Tyler Burdett: Has recorded back-to-back saves (4) in his last two games.

Our next home stand is Friday to Sunday, June 16-18. The Mavericks come to town ahead of the Edmonton Prospects and Brooks Bombers.
