The Okotoks Dawgs (12-7) travel to Lethbridge to take on the Bulls (13-7) in a battle for first place tonight, June 27. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
The Dawgs split their doubleheader with the Bulls Sunday, June 25. Zach Hanna did what he could on the offensive side of the ball in game one, gathering a trio of hits while driving in two and crossing the plate twice, but it was the Bulls having the last laugh in a close, 6-5 contest. Game two would be an entirely different story, however, with both teams putting forth a defensive gem. Chris Horvath fired 6.1 innings of shutout baseball before being relieved by Tyler Burdett, who earned his seventh save of the campaign, shutting the door the rest of the way. Hanna was up to much of the same, driving in another run, while Darius Foster put the game out of reach with an RBI single of his own.
BATTLE FOR FIRST
Okotoks and Lethbridge are now knotted at two games apiece this year in the season series. Neither team has been able to pull away in the standings, giving the upcoming three games that much more value. In four games, Okotoks has outscored the Bulls, 25-22. As it sits right now, Lethbridge is .5 game ahead of the red and white in the standings.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
CJ Lewington gets the nod tonight in one of the most important games of the season to date. Lewington kicked off the campaign with a solid start against the Medicine Hat Mavericks, pitching five innings of two-run baseball. Currently, he is 0-1 on the year and made his first relief appearance with the Dawgs in 2017 in an 11-4 win against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Lewington came out of the ‘pen and threw three innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. He looks to lower his 6.27 ERA tonight.
