The Okotoks Dawgs (16-8) host the Swift Current 57’s (14-8) in a Sunday matinee matchup today, July 2. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm.
In seven innings on Canada Day, Anthony Balderas pitched a gem, going the distance while striking out eight, allowing one earned run. With the bat in our hands, it was Jayse McLean doing some damage, swinging at the first pitch in his second at-bat and sending the ball over the wall for a three-run blast. The home run was his fifth of the season and propelled the Dawgs to a 9-1 victory over the 57’s.
In three of four games during our current winning streak, our starting rotation has gone at least seven innings. Against Brooks Bombers on June 28, Jack Rupe threw seven frames of two-run baseball, fanning seven. Moving forward to June 30 while clashing with the Lethbridge Bulls, Justin Vernia tossed eight innings, giving up three hits in a shutout. He struck out eight. Balderas capped off the streak of consecutive quality outings last night. Over that span, only three runs have been allowed.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
Chris Horvath gets the ball in our Sunday matinee and is looking for his fourth win of the season. Horvath is coming off an incredible start against Lethbridge, pitching 6.1 innings of shutout baseball. His ERA sits at 3.19 this year.
