Okotoks, AB - The (17-10) Okotoks Dawgs dropped a 6-3 contest to the (14-13) Weyburn Beavers tonight, splitting their third straight series with a Saskatchewan based club.

Matt Lloyd (Indiana University - Calgary, AB) continued to overpower WMBL pitching, stroking his 15th and 16th hit over his last eight games played in the loss. Both shots travelled to the right-centre gap for extra-bases, giving him four doubles in two nights. Brendan Rose (UNC - Calgary, AB) and John Hawk (Iowa Western) both chipped in offensively with multi-hit nights.

In the opening frame, it was the Beavers exacting some revenge from a night ago. Ulysses Fluellen continued to hurt the Dawgs with his first at-bat, barrelling a deep sac-fly to right field before an RBI single doubled their to lead to 2-0.

Okotoks took advantage of some command issues in the bottom half, scoring a run following back-to-back walks. A towering fly ball to left field off the bat of Lloyd allowed Ryan Humeniuk (Indian Hills - Calgary, AB) to move up 90 feet to third base. The next pitch, Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas) and Humeniuk manufactured a double steal to cut the deficit to one.

Lloyd maintained his WMBL dominance in the bottom of the fifth, stretching his hitting streak to eight with an RBI double off the right field wall. The base-knock chopped the Weyburn lead to three. He would later take advantage of a Jayse McLean (North Dakota State University) stolen base, darting home ahead of a late throw to second.

The Beavers would put the game out of reach in the seventh, finding the right-centre gap to double the Dawgs in a 6-3 fashion.

The game one comeback wouldn’t be duplicated tonight, as Weyburn was able to hold on the rest of the way.

Around the league, the Lethbridge Bulls took a half-game lead over the Dawgs in the West with a win over the Melville Millionaires.

The red and white have a day off tomorrow before finishing their homestand against the Fort McMurray Giants, July 6.
