The Okotoks Dawgs (22-10) take to the road against the Medicine Hat Mavericks (18-13) tonight, July 13, looking for their sixth straight win. The red and white are 2-2 against the Mavericks this year.
The bats of the Dawgs came to life last night against the Brooks Bombers, clearing the fence seven times en route to a 14-8 victory. Kody Funderburk and Matt Lloyd each had multi-home run nights while Darius Foster, Jayse McLean and Cameron Campbell chipped in with a blast of their own. On the mound, CJ Lewington threw four innings while allowing four runs and striking out six. In relief, Omar Celaya, Taylor Davis and Corey Jackson each pitched one inning of shutout baseball.
Kody Funderburk launched his 10th and 11th home run yesterday, breaking an Okotoks Dawgs record for most home runs in a single season. He surpassed shortstop Sean Kettering who hit nine overall in 2013.
The Dawgs currently ride a season-high five-game winning streak. On four separate occasions, the team had won four in a row before breaking through a night ago in Brooks.
