The Okotoks Dawgs (27-11) finish their two-game set against the (11-28) Melville Millionaires today, July 21. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Forty kilometres south of Yorkton, the Dawgs improved to 3-0 on their Saskatchewan road trip with a 4-3 victory over the Millionaires. Cameron Campbell blasted his third homerun of the season while his four RBI night was the second time the catcher out of Ellensburg, Washington had reached that mark this year. Matt Lloyd continued his dominance in Melville, earning his 17th multi-hit game of 2017 with a 3-5 night. Justin Vernia stayed undefeated on the mound, moving his record to 4-0 while firing seven innings of two-run baseball and fanning three. Vernia settled in nicely after the first inning, at one point retiring 11 straight Millionaires.
ROAD TRIP AT A GLANCE
In a perfect road trip for the Dawgs thus far, they have outscored opponents 24-12, collecting six home runs over three games. The starting pitching has been good over that span, allowing nine runs. Behind them, the bullpen has been nearly perfect, with just one earned run to their name.
Tyler Burdett, Matt Lloyd and Kody Funderburk all lead the WMBL in their respective categories. Burdett leads the league in saves (11), Lloyd in average (.418) and Funderburk in home runs (12). Anthony Balderas and Vernia are tied for third in terms of wins with four each.
