The Okotoks Dawgs (28-11) begin their two-game set against the (27-12) Regina Red Sox today, July 22. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Following a trio of rain delays, the clouds parted long enough for the Dawgs to win their fourth straight contest, 8-2, over the Melville Millionaires. Once the rain stopped, it began on the field. Greg Cullen wasted no time crushing a 2-2 fastball for his third home run of the season -- his first at-bat after a brief pause for lightning -- before Matt Lloyd extended his hitting streak to 19 in a tremendous way. His second home run of the Saskatchewan road trip echoed throughout an empty Pirie Field, flying over 400-feet for his seventh blast of 2017. Jack Rupe put together his second straight quality outing, earning the no-decision. Rupe no-hit the Millionaires through 5.1 innings of work, striking out four.
Don’t tell the Dawgs catchers that the position is primarily a defensive role. John Hawk (.327), Joel Brophy (.308) and Cameron Campbell (.308) are all hitting over .300 while clubbing six home runs between the three. With more at-bats, the trio of catchers would be in the top 30 in the WMBL in terms of their offensive numbers
