The Okotoks Dawgs (31-11) take on the Edmonton Prospects (22-20) today, July 26 in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm and 7:05pm.
In front of a sold-out crowd at Seaman Stadium, the Dawgs moved their winning streak to seven with a 6-0 victory over the Lethbridge Bulls. Anthony Balderas was lights out tonight while earning his team-leading fifth win of the campaign. The senior struck out nine over eight innings of work, shutting out the Bulls in the process.
A five-run fifth inning, highlighted by a Zach Hanna three-run moon shot over the right field wall, ultimately put the game away. Behind him, Eddie Sanchez Joel Brophy and Kody Funderburk all registered multi-hit games.
AGAINST THE PROSPECTS
A potential first-round matchup, the Dawgs have had their success against Edmonton this year. Okotoks is currently 5-1 against the black and gold this year, outscoring them 38-25 over that span. Their biggest win came on July 9, taking a 10-2 game at Seaman Stadium. Balderas fired seven quality innings while three Dawgs collected three hits.
With six games remaining, Okotoks needs to win two games to clinch the best record in the WMBL over the Regina Red Sox and Swift Current 57’s, who are currently four games behind the red and white.
