The Okotoks Dawgs (34-13) host the Fort McMurray Giants (20-27) today, July 30, wrapping up the regular season. First pitch flies at 2:05pm.
The Dawgs clinched the best record in the WMBL last night with a 12-0 blowout of the Brooks Bombers. With 34 wins, the red and white now have the most since their 2011 campaign. CJ Lewington made sure Okotoks won the President’s Trophy, recording the 12th straight game that a Dawgs starting pitcher has gone at least five innings. The Calgary product tied a season-high in strikeouts, fanning seven over six innings of shutout baseball. Joel Brophy cranked the 46th home run of the campaign for Okotoks while Cameron Campbell put together his sixth multi-hit game of 2017, registering three hits, driving in three and pushing his average over .300. Matt Lloyd and Brendan Rose followed suit with three hits of their own, playing a big part in the 15 hits collected.
GOING FOR HISTORY
The 2017 Dawgs have a chance to put a stamp on their record breaking campaign today. If they were to record their 35th win against Fort Mac, it would be the most in franchise history. At the same time, it would be the second best all-time record in the history of the WMBL. Fitting in their 10th anniversary season.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
Liam Stroud gets the nod in the final game of the regular season. Following four scoreless bullpen appearances, Stroud lowered his ERA to 3.60 with five shutout innings against the Regina Red Sox. Overall, the product from British Columbia has a 1-0 record.
BREAST CANCER JERSEY’S
Today the Dawgs will be wearing pink in the park to gain awareness for breast cancer. A live auction will take place throughout the contest against the Giants, selling off game-worn jersey’s. The silent auction will take place on the concourse with a select few jersey’s. All profits will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. All fans are encouraged to wear pink!
Now that the Dawgs have clinched a spot in the postseason, our playoff tickets are now on sale! All nine-game playoff packages will be $180. Individual playoff tickets are now available online for the first two games of the opening series, August 1 and 2 against the Edmonton Prospects.
