The Okotoks Dawgs host the Edmonton Prospects tonight, August 1, in game one of the WMBL playoffs. First pitch flies at 7:05pm.

History was made as the Dawgs notched their 35th win -- the most in franchise history -- with a 12-8 victory over the Fort McMurray Giants. It was the Dawgs’ the scoreboard up on Pink in the Park day, launching four balls over the fence, sending their total to 50 for 2017 -- also the most in franchise history. Facing adversity, down 8-3, Kody Funderburk smoked his WMBL-leading 14th and 15th on the year -- he finished the game with seven RBI. Matt Lloyd barrelled his seventh and Greg Cullen cracked his fifth. On the mound, it was the bullpen preserving the drive for 35, combining for seven shutout innings. Zach Demchenko, Brennen Lauffenburger, Carter Johnson, Corey Jackson and Funderburk all did their job in the Sunday matinee.

The Dawgs get set for redemption tonight after losing out to the Prospects a year ago in the first round of the postseason. Over the course of the 2017 campaign, Okotoks won five of eight games against Edmonton, outscoring them 44-35 over that span. The black and gold rank sixth in hits (461), last in home runs (8) and eighth in batting average (.271). Defensively, they rank seventh in ERA (4.66).

All-Star and ace Anthony Balderas gets the ball in game one of the WMBL playoffs. Balderas earned himself a sparkling 2.47 ERA in 2017, finishing with a team-high five wins. Against Edmonton, he is 2-0 while pitching 12 innings of one-run baseball.

Tickets are available! All nine-game playoff packages will be $180.
