The (1-1) Okotoks Dawgs travel to Edmonton to take on the (1-1) Prospects tonight, August 3, in game three of the WMBL playoffs. First pitch flies at 7:05pm.
The series is all tied up as the Dawgs dropped a close, 2-1 tilt to the Prospects last night. Despite the loss, Justin Vernia kept the Dawgs in the contest all night long, tossing a complete game -- a season high for the club -- while allowing just two runs. Over the course of nine innings, Vernia fanned seven Prospects, en route to the best outing of the campaign for Okotoks. Eddie Sanchez led the way offensively with a three-hit night, highlighted by a towering double to right field in the ninth inning. In the end, with everyone at the edge of their seats, the red and white weren’t able to cash him in from third base.
Okotoks looks to bounce back in Edmonton tonight as they held a record of 1-3 at RE/MAX Field throughout 2017. Despite being outscored 25-12 over that span, the playoffs are an entirely new beast, and the Dawgs have shown continuously that they are a threat to be reckoned with this year.
The Dawgs have not yet gone to the bullpen during the 2017 pennant race. In a rain-shortened affair, Anthony Balderas went five innings in game one while Vernia was able to go the distance last night.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
Rookie Graham Brunner gets the tap on the shoulder in one of the biggest games to date. The southpaw has been absolutely fantastic for the collegiate team this season, finishing with a 2-1 record and a sparkling 2.60 ERA. His best start of the campaign came against these Prospects at home, limiting Edmonton to just two hits and one run over six innings of work.
Tickets are available! All nine-game playoff packages will be $180.
